This is the dump of Guatemala City. Or more accurately, this is the very edge of the dump. This area has been picked through and cleaned out by the people whose means of survival is sorting through trash for scrap metal or anything else that could possible be of some worth.
Surrounding the dump is a huge network of homes. This is just a small part, but it appears to be one of the oldest areas considering the high number of block houses. 
We were told that most of the families live here for ten or fifteen years before they can upgrade from cardboard or scrap tin. Kinda brings a new meaning to "starter house", eh? Some of the more established areas are now receiving street names and house numbers which could have huge implications for government aid.

From what we were told, these are people from all over the place. Some are from the city and moved onto the dump as a last option for a source of income. Others are from more rural areas but came to the city in search of work.
